Doing the Mongol Rally by Bike

Posted by on December 13, 2011

Posted from Birmingham, England, United Kingdom.

Just had a stomach-wrenching moment, as you do.  Well, quite a few, to be honest.  More of an episode, really.  I’d read this blog on The Adventurists website (you can see it here) about previous participants who’ve done the Rally by motorbike.

The bit that got me was, “Of the more than 4,000 Mongol Rally Veterans, a minuscule 28 have ever ridden bikes, of which 25 have reached the fabled finish line in Ulaan Baatar.”

Did a bit of checking, and on top of that heart-warming fact, none of those who have completed the Rally appear to have gone by the route we’re planning (the ‘Stans and the Pamir Highway).

Harder than a box of concrete?  Gulp…
